Despite sex scandals and laws meant to break through the veil, Vatican reasserts that the secrecy of Confession is absolute. Is that reasonable?

By Mark Tracey The church is paying the price in loss of faith and support of many Catholics, but has not yet gone far enough to rid itself of this problem. Still, mandated destruction of a religion by the state is not permitted in our free society and would not set a useful precedent but rather support an authoritarian form of government.

By Andrew Herzman Mandated destruction of an organized crime ring IS permitted in our free society.

By Mark Tracey Is a religion a crime ring? Individuals within a religion or others defined groups may be criminals, but that does not make the entire group criminals. You are perhaps intentionally misapplying logic and terms to try to make your point.

By Andrew Herzman Raping children is a crime and any organization that covers it up world-wide needs to be shut down. The Pope to al. the people in charge down knew what was going on fir decades and none went to the police. They moved the guilty from parish to parish to protect them. The entire group are criminals.

By Mark Tracey The organization(s) didn’t rape anyone. Members within the organizations have committed those crimes and others within the organizations have criminally covered up those crimes , prosecute the individuals involved.

By Mark Tracey Your will find sexual predators and criminals in every large organizations , social clubs, unions and companies. It is the nature of a small percentage of humans, not the nature of the group.

By Andrew Herzman If you sit back and do nothing about it, you're just as guilty. Hence the entire group is corrupt and guilty.

By Mark Tracey Take the current UAW scandal, some of the leaders were corrupt and took union funds for personal use, some of the other leaders knew of the corruption and kept their mouth shut. By your view, that implies everyone In the UAW is corrupt right down to the lowly, just hired line worker is corrupt as well. Should we then charge ALL UAW workers as criminals and disband the union?

By Mark Tracey It is for individuals to decide if and what religion they chose to participate in, not an edict from a dictator as you propose. You get to choose for yourself, not have someone else impose their views on you.
