Should the Postal Service be shut down?

The U.S. Postal Service lost $3.2 billion in the first three months of 2012. It lost $5.1 billion last year despite cutbacks. This is not a function of the Recession. It has been bleeding taxpayer money for most of the last decade and is expected to continue. Mail service was once considered a basic right, but now with the proliferation of email, it doesn't look like the U.S. Mail can survive without the U.S. Government spending billions a year to keep it afloat. Is it time to shut down the postal service?
